Purpose of Razzody Music

The initial purpose for setting up Razzody Music was to secure the publishing rights for the jazz album Clazz, recorded by the group Razz.  We figured since we were going to the trouble to set up a publishing company, it made sense to use this business to help promote our cause:  re-introduce jazz fusion to the public and and show it for the truly viable music form it is.

Since Razz is actually a recording group based on an evolving collection of players, it made sense for Razzody Music to become the hub for these musicians.  With this core in place, composers, lyricists and players that otherwise may never have had a chance to record together can now share ideas and work independently and collectively to create great contemporary fusion music.  Even as we continue to grow, Razz will exist as an "open ended" ensemble for composers and players to try each others music out and push the envelope of jazz into the next century.  Razzody will also represent other artists recordings through our publishing and promotional services and contacts.

A brief introduction to Fusion

Fusion got it's start  in the late sixties with such artists as Miles Davis, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, to mention a few.  Later came Pat Methany, Jeff Lorber, Tom Scott, The Yellow Jackets , etc. all still going strong.  Due to the many new "arms" fusion has developed in the last thirty years, it really can't just be called jazzfusion any longer.  Although jazz is the anchor, just about every other genre of music has been or is being blended with jazz to create many compound fusions.

Having been labled "musicians music" by the general listener, jazz has always been confined to a rather small (relatively speaking) following.  Well, the listening audience has matured and as a result, it has grown by leaps and bounds.  This still doesn't change the fact that jazz has a limited following.  Much of this can be blamed on the commercialism of pop (all inclusive) music.  We at Razzody Music want to help change this miscarriage of musical justice by promoting great fusion music and exposing the "non-jazz" audience to this creative, energetic and musically satisfying nich of the jazz world
